About our festival
No Place is an Island is a new literary festival celebrating the joy of storytelling and the thrill of travel. We give up-and-coming literary voices from around the world a platform to shine while bringing new talent into playful dialogue with more established authors.
Our festival also highlights Bornholm, an island of history, natural beauty, and vibrant entrepreneurship. We partner with local founders and businesses, to create an experience that combines travel and literary (ad)venture.
Novelist and essayist Zadie Smith has called literature “the experience of the world through a consciousness other than your own.” We believe that in an increasingly polarized world, literature serves as a bridge, building empathy and connections.
The Bornhom identity:
It’s a sunshine, foodie, crafts and makers island
World class beaches (just ask Lonely Planet). Michelin-starred gourmet food. Stunning nature. History in spades.
But Bornholm is more than a summer hotspot. It’s an island of makers, teeming with creative and business ventures, from gourmet restaurants to world-class ceramics.
Bornholm is also leading the way on the green transition, earning the title of Europe’s most sustainable island (2020) and setting ambitious plans to become the world’s first energy island.

The team
We are a team of writers, entrepreneurs, and literature enthusiasts with day jobs in creative agencies, health tech startups, book stores and production companies. Two of us founded The Write Salon, a boutique nonprofit running international literary events since 2019. We are proud of launching this first edition of No Place is an Island on Bornholm.
